Morning person

I’m starting today, New Year’s Eve day, with some quiet time in the backyard. Max and I spent most of yesterday working on my garden, and this morning I decided I’d get up with the dawn so I could see exactly where the sun hits each part of the garden, and for how long. There’s no point putting in beautiful plants if they are going to get scorched or receive no sunlight at all, right?
It has been the perfect thing to do on the morning of a busy day. I rolled out of bed at 6 30am, made myself an iced coffee, and sat down at my outdoor table with a little map of the backyard so I could record where and when the sun hits each part of it.

The neighbourhood was so quiet and peaceful, my coffee was cold and strong, and the birds competed to see who could sing louder. I sat back in my chair and gazed up at the canopy of trees above me.

I’ve never been a morning person, but I can see how someone might be. Taking the time to soak up the morning, to bask in the silent and peaceful sunlight as it creeped higher up my garden walls felt so lovely. I think I’m ready for the new year.
I’m still relying on my phone to blog, and hopefully will have Internet sorted out once all the offices reopen later this week. I miss interacting with all my blog buddies, but I am reading as much of your writing as I can via my phone! I hope you have a safe, fun New Year’s Eve!

  1. I’m a morning person only because of my kids. I get up an hour before them every morning so I can have a little peace and quiet first thing in the morning. I would totally sleep in though if it was an option :)

    • I think that is one of the things I’m most nervous for if I ever become a mom- I am terribly grumpy when I’m running on minimal sleep!
